The XRP Ledger (XRPL) had one of its busiest weeks of the year in mid-October 2026. Over four days, Ripple's dollar stablecoin RLUSD was added to a global bank's custody offering, a brokerage infrastructure provider and a fintech-focused bank both announced RLUSD integrations, and Stripe-owned Privy launched wallet tools for the network. Around the same time, an XRP treasury company named its first execution partners and XRPL developers disclosed a now-patched security flaw.
Here's a clear summary of what happened.
Standard Chartered Launches RLUSD Custody (Oct. 12)
On October 12, Standard Chartered launched institutional custody of RLUSD issued on the XRP Ledger through its Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) branch, which is regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority. The bank is also working with Ripple and LMAX Group on a separate arrangement that would let clients use eligible RLUSD holdings to support trading positions while the tokens stay in custody. That arrangement is still subject to testing, legal documentation and regulatory requirements.
Privy Brings Embedded Wallets to XRPL (Oct. 13)
Stripe-owned Privy announced XRP Ledger wallet tools through a partnership with Ripple. Developers can create and manage wallets in software and sign transactions involving XRP, RLUSD and other XRPL-issued assets. Privy also highlighted server-side wallets for businesses building AI agents that make payments through systems such as x402.
DriveWealth Plans RLUSD Settlement (Oct. 14)
DriveWealth, a brokerage-as-a-service platform serving more than 100 partners globally, partnered with Ripple to bring RLUSD settlement and payments to its infrastructure. Integration will start in Europe, with a planned extension to the United States. The arrangement includes tools for minting and redeeming RLUSD and covers European digital asset custody.
Cross River Integrates RLUSD Into Core Banking (Oct. 15)
Cross River Bank announced it will add RLUSD to its proprietary Core Operating System. Fintech customers will be able to move between U.S. dollars and RLUSD alongside ACH, wires and real-time payments, all through a single API. The bank said its services are currently available only in limited U.S. states.
Key figures from the announcement:
- RLUSD has exceeded $2.5 billion in market capitalization, including more than $1 billion issued on the XRP Ledger.
- XRPL transactions typically settle within three to five seconds and cost fractions of a cent.
- The release put the ledger's cumulative settlement value above $1.3 trillion.
RLUSD is issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, which operates under a limited-purpose trust charter supervised by the New York State Department of Financial Services. Its reserves are subject to monthly independent attestations.
Evernorth Moves to Put 473 Million XRP to Work
XRP treasury company Evernorth, which began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker XRPN on October 12, named Ripple, Kraken, Coinbase and BitGo as its first institutional execution partners. It plans to begin deploying its 473 million XRP into institutional strategies in Q4 2026, subject to closing conditions and approvals. The company said it intends to add DeFi strategies on the XRP Ledger once native lending features are activated by validators and proven in production.
Security Note: A Decade-Old Bug Patched
On October 10, a security report disclosed a flaw dating to 2015 in the XRPL's built-in exchange. Under specific conditions, it could have allowed an attacker to create new XRP, breaking the fixed 100 billion supply. Researcher Cayden Liao and Veria AI found the flaw and reported it on September 22. RippleX fixed it in the xrpld 3.4.1 release on September 25 and said it found no evidence of exploitation on public networks.
What This Means
- Stablecoins are moving into existing financial plumbing. Custody, brokerage settlement and core banking are areas where institutions need regulated, predictable tools.
- Developer access is widening. Embedded and server-side wallets lower the barrier for apps, including AI-agent payments.
- Stablecoin growth and XRP price don't necessarily move together. More RLUSD activity on the XRPL could support network liquidity and adoption, but it doesn't automatically create buying pressure for XRP. XRP traded around $1.34 on October 14–15, according to CoinMarketCap data cited by CoinMarketCap Academy.
- Several items are still pending, including collateral arrangements, U.S. rollouts and native lending, so timelines may change.
Things to Watch
- Progress on the Standard Chartered and LMAX collateral arrangement
- DriveWealth's rollout from Europe to the U.S.
- Activation of native lending on the XRP Ledger
- Further growth in RLUSD supply on XRPL compared with other networks
