Avior - Blog : Trending Crypto Coins This Week (October 17, 2026): TIA, NEAR, TAO and ZEC Explained

The broader crypto market spent the week in a cautious mood after a hotter-than-expected U.S. inflation report. On the morning of October 17, Bitcoin traded around $81,500 and Ether near $2,430, with total crypto market capitalization at about $2.78 trillion and Bitcoin's share near 59%, according to altlar.com market data. Against that quiet backdrop, several individual tokens stood out because of project-specific news. This overview explains what happened. It is informational only and is not a recommendation to buy or sell anything.

Celestia (TIA): A New Chain for AI Agents

On October 16, Celestia announced Eden, a high-performance EVM chain designed as a sandbox for "agentic commerce," meaning AI agents that pay, trade and call models on-chain.

  • Eden is built with the Evolve stack, uses Celestia for data availability and uses TIA as its native gas token.
  • It supports standard Ethereum tooling such as Solidity, Hardhat and Foundry, along with atomic batch transactions, sponsored gas and larger contract size limits.
  • The first experiment, a closed beta called botfun, lets AI agents launch tokens and trade around narratives, with each inference call paid on-chain via the x402 payment protocol.

TIA rose about 16% in 24 hours after the announcement and led a group of at least 15 altcoins posting double-digit gains that day, according to Crypto Briefing. Keep in mind that Eden is described by Celestia itself as an experiment, and new-chain narratives often bring sharp moves in both directions.

NEAR Protocol (NEAR): Governance News and Intents Volume

On October 14, the NEAR Foundation announced that Mert Mumtaz, CEO of Solana infrastructure company Helius, had joined its governing Council, The Block reported. He will help guide product strategy, ecosystem growth and governance, and will judge the NEAR Hackathon running November 1–14.

  • According to the foundation, NEAR Intents, its cross-chain swap and settlement system, has processed more than $33 billion in all-time volume.
  • NEAR gained more than 11% over 24 hours and traded above $5.20 on October 16, according to COINOTAG.
  • For context, Yahoo Finance data shows NEAR traded between roughly $4.33 and $5.96 during the first half of October, so the token has been volatile in both directions.

Bittensor (TAO): Decentralized AI Back in Focus

TAO, the token of the Bittensor decentralized AI network, rebounded on October 16 alongside renewed interest in AI-related crypto projects. Tao Outsider reported that it briefly reached about $291 on Binance before closing near $276, meaning the push above $285 did not hold by the daily close. Market commentators pointed to the $290–$292 area as resistance and around $280 as nearby support. Analysts also noted that trading volume was below its 30-day average, so the bounce lacked strong confirmation.

Zcash (ZEC): A Reminder About Leverage

Zcash went the other way. The privacy coin fell roughly 11–13% on October 15 and touched about $1,082, according to Crypto Times and NexuAlpha data.

  • Analysts linked the drop to the broad risk-off move after the U.S. CPI report and a sharp decline in South Korean equities, not to Zcash-specific news.
  • CoinGlass data cited by Crypto Times showed about $20 million in ZEC liquidations over 24 hours, roughly 89% of them long positions.
  • CoinShares researcher Luke Nolan noted that ZEC was still up around 460% from its March lows despite the pullback, and said heavy leverage had amplified the move.
  • Developers are scheduled to decide on mainnet activation of the NU7 upgrade on October 20, with activation targeted for November 5.

What These Moves Have in Common

  • News-driven rallies: TIA and NEAR rose on specific announcements, not on a broad market rally.
  • Leverage cuts both ways: ZEC shows how quickly crowded leveraged positions can unwind.
  • Narratives rotate: AI agents, cross-chain intents and privacy are all competing for attention, and leadership can change within days.

How to Approach Trending Coins

  • Read the primary source, such as the project's own announcement, before acting on a social media summary.
  • Check liquidity and volume. Thin markets can produce large price swings and higher slippage on swaps.
  • Size positions carefully and avoid leverage you don't fully understand.
  • Consider stablecoins as a place to park funds while you wait for clearer conditions.
